Flowers Nails Free Throws In OT Lifting Ribault Over Bishop Kenny

Bishop Kenny HS- Senior forward Lovie Flowers scored the last 4 points of overtime, including the game deciding free throws Monday night, as Ribault (9-3) defeated (8-6) Bishop Kenny 51-50. Flowers stepped in brilliantly after starters Kendra Williams and Nigeria Harkless both fouled out late in the game. Depth and experience led the way for the Lady Trojans from the opening tip, to the final buzzer. However, it was Bishop Kenny who jumped out to an early lead.

Junior Maddie Millar hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter scoring all of her 9 points in the first half. She complimented Miami commit Jasmyne Roberts who scored 14 points in the first half as Kenny held a 25-23 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Nigeria Harkless led the way for Ribault scoring 13 points as the Lady Trojans kept it close to the Crusaders. Harkless finished with 22 points in the game as the 6’2 senior forward led Ribault in scoring.

Yet Jasmyne Roberts was unstoppable for Bishop Kenny. She scored 37 of her team’s 50 points on the night. Her play almost singlehandedly carried Kenny to a win in regulation. With both teams trading baskets, the game was knotted at 42-42 at the end of regulation heading into overtime.

In a game featuring two of the best teams in Northeast Florida, someone had to step up and be a difference maker. That player was senior guard Samiya Carroll. She controlled the game for Ribault on both ends of the floor, scoring 14 points with several key assists. Carroll’s stellar defense helped hold Millar scoreless in the second half as Ribault got the one point victory.

Ribault faces (2-2) Ridge Community Friday 1/8/21, while Bishop Kenny takes on Bartram Trail (7-6) on Friday 1/8/21
