Bishop Kenny Returns To Final 4 In Blowout Fashion Over West Florida

Jacksonville FL- Senior Jasmyn Roberts said it best before the game, “It’s a great day to cut down some nets”. After her team’s 51-27 “Elite 8” victory over West Florida (10-10), Bishop Kenny not only cut down the nets, but is headed back to the Final 4 for the third consecutive year.

It’s an incredible job by head coach Charlsea Clark who has navigated this unique team through a very unique season. Said Clark, “All the long nights, all the times away from family. All the tough conversations. All of it; itโ€™s worth it. Three Straight Regional Championships. Three Straight Final Fours”.

Bishop Kenny was never threatened in this game, leading 18-0 after one quarter and 28-7 at halftime. Fittingly, two of their leading players all year came out aggressive, seniors Jamia Nesmith and Jasmyn Roberts (University of Miami Commit). Both scored 18 points in the contest, as they were virtually un-guardable all night by West Florida. Nesmith (University of Charleston commit) shot 9 for 9 on the night and didn’t miss.

It was a can’t miss kinda night for the entire team. Freshman Clare Coyle grabbed 10 boards including 6 offensive rebounds. Roberts led with 3 steals on defense and 8 assists on the night. Usually the scorer, against West Florida she was a distributer as well, once again leading her team to Lakeland.

Bishop Kenny (20-9) will face state power Lake Highland Prep (17-0) Thursday 2/25/21 at 10am. Lake Highland Prep defeated Crystal River 81-20 in their Regional Final contest. Six-foot-two junior Nyla Harris is ranked #11 in ESPNWโ€™s 2022 rankings, and six-foot-1 senior Kayla Blackshear (Alabama signee) form arguably one of the best duo’s down low in the country. Bishop Kenny fell to the Highlanders last year in the championship game 61-46, but will look for revenge next week.
