Southside- Duval County Middle School football is back, and with it comes several teams vying for the opportunity to hoist the coveted championship trophy at the end of the season. For Lake Shore, they have had several opportunities at the title, yet they’ve fallen short in different playoff and championship tries. This year however, they have their best chance at the title thank to a talented group of young men, who showcased their immense talents on the field Tuesday evening.

Southside would get the ball first and attempt to establish the run game. However, on just the second play from scrimmage Southside would fumble and it would be recovered by Lake Shore. On the first offensive play, #9 Jaidan Delaune would throw short to #3 Fareed Coleman who took it the distance for a touchdown.

Lake Shore led 6-0 early, however, Southside looked to get back into the game. They were a team with good size and athletic ability at running back, yet the line could not provide a push on the Lake Shore front. A fourth down resulted in a recovery by #58 Ghio Thelemaque (2 in the game). Lake Shore would waist no time, as Delaune tossed his second touchdown pass, this time to #1 Derayl Gathers for a touchdown.

Delaune and Gathers would hook up again in the first quarter. The defense stopped Southside on four downs giving the ball back to the red hot offense. Right away the two connected on another touchdown making the score 20-0 over Southside in the 2nd quarter.

It was a tough day for Southside as nothing seemed to go right for them. Even on plays where their athletes would fight to get positive yards disaster struck in the form of turnovers being recovered by Lake Shore.

Jaidan Delaune would go yard again, as he hit Ja’Qillie Hobdy for a touchdown. Delaune tossed his 4th touchdown pass of the first half, and incredibly wasn’t finished. He’d hit Gathers and Hobdy again on consecutive drives to conclude the first half.

The talented 7th grade quarterback completed the first half with six touchdown passes and over 200 yards passing. Lake Shore’s first half warpath saw them go into the locker room with a 40-0 advantage, as the Warriors would go on to win the non conference game and start the season 1-0. Southside fell to 0-1, but still has a chance to get on the winning track when they start conference play.
