Main Street- It’s no secret to anyone where many of the big time football players from Matthew Gilbert Middle School, and Spring Field Academy Middle School (formerly Kirby Smith) go to play high school football. For decades, many football players have opted for Moncrief (Raines) over Main Street (Jackson). Yet with the new hire of Coach Christopher Foy at Jackson, an influx of talent has stayed at the program as they boast several top players at skill positions. Jackson’s unquestionable leaders are junior linebacker Grayson Howard (247 #12 ranked 2023 linebacker in the country ) and senior quarterback Jalen Sonnier. Jackson would score first when quarterback Jalen Sonnier ran a 1-yard touchdown into the end zone to make the score 8-0.
Yet there is a reason Raines has 3 state titles, and that’s because of their dynamic playmakers at almost every position. They would answer Jackson’s touchdown when running back Tadarius Devoe weaved his way to the end zone on a 22-yard touchdown run to tie the score 8-8 after to successful 2-point conversions.
As the Raines defense began to make plays and stop Jackson it was time for their offense to do their job and do so they did. Quarterback Reshawn Latimore started his first game at the position two weeks ago, and played a great game against First Coast. He picked up where he left off versus Jackson, tossing an 18-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kareem Burke with 1:36 2nd qtr. Raines would lead 15-8 going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Raines would put the ball in the hands of their dynamic playmaker Kareem Burke on the first play of the second half, and he would deliver on a 65-yard touchdown run putting the Viking up two scores over the Tigers 22-8.
In the third quarter, Jackson attempted to mount a comeback, but the Vikings defense was just to much. Jaquan King recovered a fumble in the end-zone for a safety to increase the Viking lead to 21. Raines would go on to win the game 31-14.
