Upset Friday; Ed White, Riverside, Creekside Fall From Unbeaten

Jacksonville FL- As we near Halloween, the nightmares seemingly came early for several teams in Northeast Florida three of the unbeaten teams fell Friday night. There were also several upsets that littered the scoreboard throughout the evening. Check out the high school football scoreboard this week.

Mandarin 35 Ed White 20

Freshman Tramell Jones lit up the Commanders tossing three touchdowns in the first half. His first came on the first drive of the game, as he hit Jeremiah Shack for a score.

After Ed White failed to score from the Mandarin 10-yard line, Jones hooked up with Kieren Jackson for the second score. Jackson caught the slant and raced the distance for the score as Mandarin took and early 14-0 lead.

Ed White was able to drive the ball between the twenties, but could not execute in the red-zone. Mandarin’s defense was a great part in that effort as linebackers Carmello Murphy and Tony Carter were tackling machines the entire night.

Their play set up by a long swing pass from Jones to Terrance Johnson, who took it 78-yards to the Ed White 3- yard line. TJ Lane would pound it in for the 21-0 Mandarin advantage.

Jones would hook up with freshman Jamie French for a touchdown to put Mandarin up 28-0 at halftime. The Freshman connection of Jones to French is going to be a great one in years to come.

Ed White made a game of it in the second half as Christian Ellis scored three touchdown , two on the ground and one 40-yard receiving touchdown to tighten the score.

But the Commander defense couldn’t stop the running of Terrance Johnson who gashed them for first downs to knock Ed White (4-1) from the unbeaten 35-20.

Atlantic Coast 29 Creekside 14

Arthur “Fatz” Walker ran for 175 yards and 3 touchdowns as Atlantic Coast Stung previously unbeaten Creekside Friday night. Walker got the party started with a 38-yard touchdown run and a 6-yard touchdown run in the first half to give AC a 14-7 lead.

After a fake punt by Walker went for 30 yards, he would score on a 6-yard score to give Coast a 21-7 lead. After a safety on Creekside for throwing the ball out of bounds in the end zone put AC up 23-7, Jason Corley iced the game scoring on a 6-yard run to give Atlantic Coast a 29-14 win.

Creekside’s quarterback Jacob Dennie tossed two touchdowns to Brendon McMillan and Paul Wood in the defeat. The Knights lose their first game of the season falling to 6-1.

Columbia 29 Riverside 26

Columbia erased a 19 point second half lead to stun previously unbeaten Riverside 29-26 Friday night. Columbia found themselves in a hole courtesy of the big playmakers of Riverside. Al Gibson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to give Riverside a 6-0 lead.

However, Columbia would respond as quarterback Kade Jackson found Jace Hosky for a 50-yard gain, setting up a touchdown pass to Trey Tolliver taking the lead 7-6 going into halftime.

In the second half, Riverside got hot as quarterback Daniel Plummer was inserted and tossed three touchdown passes, two to Freddie Manning. The first was an 85-yard touchdown play. The second was a 60-yard touchdown reception, and the third a 25 yard toss to Dayon Rawls as the Generals led 28-7 in the 3rd.

Yet back came Columbia. Playing without their starting quarterback Kade Jackson who was injured earlier in the game, in came Evan Umstead for Columbia. He tossesd a touchdown to Marcus Peterson to close the gap to 28-14 with just over 8 minutes to play in the 4th quarter.

An interception by Jaden Robinson put Columbia in great field position, yet linebacker Devin Smith would get an interception for Riverside as the teams traded turnovers by their highly recruited studs.

Columbia would go ahead for good when Umstead hit Bobby Miller for the touchdown with 4 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Miller would seal the game on the defensive side of the ball as well with a 4th down sack to end Riverside’s attempt for a comeback. The Generals would fall to 6-1.
