We take a look at teams around the area either at their mid-season point or just after the half way mark. Today’s report is on the Trinity Christian Conquerors coached by Verlon Dorminey. Coach Dorminey surpassed 300 wins for his illustrious High School football coaching career. His 2021 Conquerors have done this with a 6-1 record and the toughest schedule in Northeast Florida.
On offense, Trinity was without Oklahoma commit Treyaun Webb for the start of the season as he nursed a hamstring injury, yet the running game flourished with sophomore Darnell Rogers. Rogers has rushed for 767 yards and 6 touchdowns. Webb returned in the 5th game of the season, making the rushing attack one of the best in the state.
Rushing Stats
The passing game has been powered by the freshman phenom Colin Hurley. Hurley has been extremely impressive as the Trinity signal caller, passing for 1,305 yards and 19TDs on the year.
On defense, Trinity has been extremely opportunistic this year as four players have multiple interceptions on the season. Led by Thomas Fryer (3), and Keaton Thomas (3) both have scored touchdowns on defense.
The guys up front on defense have been led by Caden Morrell who has 78 tackles on the season with 2 sacks. Cameron Anderson has registered 58 tackles with 3 sacks on the year. They are a key component to the blitz happy pressure defense that has created lots of turnovers.
Trinity defeated American Heritage last week 27-14, bouncing back from a loss to Bolles. They also have wins over Columbia, Clearwater Academy, and Raines. With teams like FSU and Riverside, remaining the schedule doesn’t get any easier. But the Conquerors have all but solidified their ticket to the Class 2A playoffs with their impressive wins this season. They reloaded from last year’s team and are on a mission to repeat as champions.
