Jacksonville Fl- It was another Northwest Classic featuring Raines and Ribault, the 52nd to be exact. A long tradition of competition, and sportsmanship. A game that had resumed its competitiveness with wins by Ribault seems like a distant memory, as the result today saw another victory for the Vikings off Moncrief. Raines dominated from start to finish ending with a 30-0 shutout of Ribault, winning their 5th straight Northwest Classic.
Carleton Butler came into the game red hot, and continued his stellar play at quarterback. After being injured early in the season, Butler resumed as starting quarterback and has led the Vikings to two straight victories. Against Ribault, Butler ran for two touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns to lead his team.
It started early for Raines. After running for a short touchdown in the first quarter, Butler hit wide receiver Kareem Burke for a touchdown in the second quarter. The talented senior would take it to the air in the 3rd quarter, tossing a touchdown to Tadarius Devoe for the score making it 24-0. Finally, Butler would seal the win with a 12-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter.
It was an all around game for Raines as they got contributions from the defense and in the run game. Clifton Richardson scored a touchdown on the ground for Raines. The defense pitched the shutout making plays all day. Derrick Griffin had an interception early in the contest highlighting the effort.
Raines(6-2) will welcome a stiff test in Columbia(5-3) next week, while Ribault (1-8) has a bye. With the win, the Vikings go 3-0 in district 3-5A.
