Wolfson HS- With 4:00 minutes left to play in the 4th quarter and the game tied 6-6 all, Ribault head coach Aaron Pinckney dialed up some old school football to close out the game. A steady dose of ground and pound behind his offensive line milking the clock resulted in a touchdown by Te’Sean Haynes to go ahead of Twin Lakes 12-6 with just over 2 minutes to play in the game.
The Ribault defense would do the rest. On the ensuing drive, linebacker Jerald Wynn knifed in the backfield and sacked the Twin Lakes quarterback for a safety, as Ribault would defeat Twin Lakes 14-6 to return to the Duval County Middle School championship.
The game had all types of hype surrounding it as Twin Lakes was build as an up and coming powerhouse this year with lots of speed and play makers. It showed from the onset of the playoff game as Twin Lakes hard hitting set the tone for the first half.
Yet Ribault would respond as champions do, converting on a crucial 4th and short. Then driving down to the 1-yard line. Quarterback Timothy Cole would sneak it in from 1-yard out for a touchdown giving Ribault an early 6-0 lead. Cole was instrumental in leading his team in the game. He mad big plays with his legs throughout.
Twin Lakes would respond as they had all year, and this time it only took one play. On the first play of their first offensive possession, Twin Lakes running-back Nashawn Jacobs would motor 50-yards around the left end for a touchdown to tie the game 6-6.
The rest of the game was a chess match of coaches and a checkers match between players, as each team made plays to stop the other.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter, when Ribault capitalized on field position after pinning Twin Lakes deep in their own territory, and forcing them to punt. Ribault would put together a championship-like drive that would drive them back to the big game.
Ribault will face Lake Shore next Tuesday in the Duval County Middle School Championship game.
