Jacksonville FL- Raines started out fast in their second round playoff contest. Indicative of the speed advantage they possessed over Wakulla. It was Carleton Butler who scored from 9-yards out to give Raines and early 6-0 lead after a missed extra point. Butler would score on a 16-yard run, and he’d toss a touchdown pass to Kareem Burke in the second quarter giving Raines a 21-14 advantage going into halftime.
Yet Raines committed costly turnovers, which Wakulla converted into scoring plays. The main beneficiary of Raine’s mistakes was Wakulla’s Denzell Miller. After Raines muffed a punt in the first quarter, Miller would recover. Just second later Quarterback Haden Klees would hit Miller in the end-zone for a touchdown. Yet Miller wasn’t done. The talented senior grabbed an interception and returned it for a touchdown in the first quarter. He accounted for three turnovers on the night.
Wakulla’s Zamarion Smith would close the game out with two touchdowns in the second half, as Wakulla moved on to the third round of the Class 5A-1 playoffs. Wakulla will face Baker County at Baker County in the Regional Final. Final : Wakulla 32 Raines 27
Raines bows out of the playoffs in the second round finishing the season with an 8-3 record. A team of very talented seniors, laid it all on the line for the Viking faithful this season. It was tough loss, but a terrific season.
