Cocoa Comeback Keeps Bolles From Third Consecutive Title Game

Cocoa FL- It was the perfect start that the Bolles Bulldogs (8-3) game planned for in their Class 4A State Championship game. Fast, fierce and focused on the task at hand. It showed as they built a 24-7 halftime lead over Cocoa (11-1). However, Cocoa would score 28 unanswered points in the second half to go on to defeat Bolles 35-24.

Bolles would ride senior Kade Frew as they had done all season to the tune of 1309 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. He touched the ball every play on Bolles first scoring drive which was capped off by a Frew short touchdown run giving Bolles a 7-0 lead in the first.

After a Matthew Berry field goal made it 10-0, Bolles would score again to go up 17-0 when DJ Moore executed an excellent play for a touchdown. Cocoa would respond when quarterback Davin Wynder hit Donte Cook for a score to pull with 17-7 in the second quarter.

Frew’s second touchdown of the game gave Bolles a 24-7 advantage going into halftime as both offense and defense seemed to be clicking on all cylinders.

The second half was a different story. Wynder would connect with Cook again for a touchdown closing the Bolles lead to just 3-points 24-21 in the third quarter.

OJ Ross would give Cocoa their first lead of the game with 10:00 to play in the game, as Bolles looked for answers to stop the offensive onslaught of Cocoa.

Yet there would be no answer on this night, as Cook would find Winder for the third time in the game with under 2:00 minutes to play and sealing the game.

Bolles attempt to reach a title game for the third year in a row came up just short this year for Head Coach Matt Toblin and his talented team. Yet, their accomplishments were still mighty and efforts valiant, in advancing to the State Semifinal for the third straight season.
