Deland Fl- The Creekside Knights defeated Cypress Bay 3-1 in the Class 7A State Championship to win their first soccer title in school history. However it wasn’t just a historic moment for the soccer team, but it was an historic moment for the entire school as this marks the first state championship for any sport in the school’s 13-year history.
The historic match kicked off with both teams scoring in the first half. Avery Robinson scored for Creekside as the teams attempted to look for a break through. In the second half they would find it, as Creekside would pull ahead for good with two scores one from Paige McSwigan and another from Robinson to bring home the trophy.
Congratulations to Coach Joe Soto on an incredible season where he navigated his team to a 19-3-1 record. The Knights won their last 5 games, including a rematch against rival Bartram trail. A team in which they fell to in the district championship.
They have been led by Sophomore Jianna Ramirez who scored 12 goals on the season. Sophomore Avery Robinson who scored 11 goals, and junior Olivia Surrency who also scored 11 goals have been instrumental all seaosn. Senior Brenna Robinson has been a leader on the field with 11 assists on the season.
