Jaguars great Maurice Jones Drew announced his retirement today after eight years in the league. Jones-Drew holds the Jaguar record for most career rushing touchdowns (68). A product of De La salle High School in California. Rivals.com named him as a four-star recruit and ranked him the No. 1 all-purpose back in the nation in 2003. At UCLA Maurice Jones-Drew set an all-time NCAA single-season record with a 28.5 yards per return average on 15 punt returns. He is second in yards per punt return in NCAA history. As a Jaguar he was paired with another Jaguar great Fred Taylor to form one of the most dangerous running back duos in NFL history. Jones Drew holds Jacksonville Franchise records in….
- Most rushing touchdowns in a single season (15)
- Most career kickoff return yards (2,054)
- Longest kickoff return: 100 yards
- Most rushing yards in a single season (1,606)
- Most career rushing touchdowns (63)
- Most career kickoff return touchdowns (2)
Jones-Drew spent last year playing for the Oakland Raiders, but will retire as a Jacksonville Jaguar. He undoubtedly will be on the NFL network as an analyst, seeing that his charisma, and chemistry with lead host Rich Eisen is one that was noted by many as very natural during his playing days. He brought star power to Jacksonville and may be underrated by some due to the fact that he played on some bad teams. But his contributions to the Jaguars are undeniable, and he has a good shot of getting into the Pride of the Jaguars located at Everbank Field.
Congratulations Maurice on an excellent NFL career.
