Jacksonville FL- Lined up in the Wildcat-Formation was Florida commit Treyaun Webb. The game was tied 7-7 in the third quarter versus University Christian, and the Trinity offense faced 3rd and 20 from their own 6-yard line. Yet, no down or distsance is too far for the determined Webb, who took the snap, ran off tackle to his left, and proceeded to run over and through three University Christian defenders on his way to an electrifying 94-yard touchdown run. The play was a demoralizer for University Christian, as Trinity went on to win 20-13 to remain undefeated.
Playing without starting quarterback Colin Hurley due to injury, Webb and junior running-back Darnell Rogers had been featured all evening as the primary offensive weapons for the Conquerors. The game turned into an old school, dirty, ground it out power game for Trinity on offense. It was Rogers who would score first for Trinity to tie the game in the second quarter.
Trinity found themselves in a dog fight all night, as previously undefeated University Christian played hard and were focused on the upset. Senior Running back Orel Gray would rack up big yardage on explosive plays in the first half giving UC an decisive advantage with field position. Gray would score in the second quarter giving his team a 7-0 lead.
Trinity would go to the eye in the sky and find a weakness in the Christian’s defense. They began to attack the left side of the defensive line with Webb and Rogers. However, University Christian found success in the running game as well. Hitting the outside with Orel Gray.
University Christian found success through the air as well, as they exploited mismatches in they had with the Trinity secondary. Quarterback Dwayne Stuckey Jr would hit wide receiver Jenoa Alford on several slants for big yardage in the game. They were able to hook up on alot of plays to move the chains.
Yet Trinity’s redzone defense would be the difference for the Conquerors. Backed up against their own end-zone, Trinity’s defense would execute a goal-line stand in the first quarter turning back University Christian from a scoring opportunity.
Players like Tomarion McCray, who had 2 sacks in the game. And Malachi Young, who stuffed holes in the interior of the stingy Trinity defense. It would be this bend but don’t break effort, that ultimately was the difference in the outcome of the game.
Webb and Rogers would close out the contest in the fourth, as the tandeum gained a big first down and then rumbled for a touchdown through the warn downed Christians defense. Webb finished with 185 yards rushing at 2 touchdowns. Rogers finshed with 133-yards and a touchdown on the evening.
University Christian would tack on a score late by Gray bringing the score to 20-13. Gray finished with 2 touchdowns on the night. However, University Christian were unable to stop Trinity from getting crucial first downs on the final drive, as Trinity took a knee and the win.
Trinity (7-0) faces Christ’s Church next week, while, University Christian (7-1) takes on Terry Parker.
