
Westside Middle- It was a good start on the week of “Good Friday” for many middle school athletes, as the Duval County Middle School track & field season got started this week. James Weldon Johnson, Highlands, and Westside Middle Schools participated in the meet, as some of Duval County’s best and fastest showcased their talents and got off to fast starts to the season.

Highlands blazed to a photo finish and victory in their 4×1 relay. They edged out Westside in a race that captivated the crowd. Arion Moore, Terence Croley, Ishmael Bradley and Damarion Hampton took home the narrow win.

In the Boys 100 meters and 200 meters, Westside’s Jeremiah Levy left the compitiion running a 11.73 in the 100 and a 25.54 in the 200 meters. Levy also showed his ability to run the relay as well, as Westside’s 4×1 relay team ran a very good race.

James Weldon Johnson’s Zoriah McQueen is an athlete to keep your eye on. She blazed to a victory in the 200M running a 26.84 and burned up the track in the 100M as well. She’s a strong candidate for a county title looking to be the queen of Duval.

Winners of the 400M both came from James Weldon Johnson as well. Nijah Garnes won the girl’s 400 meters, while Aariz Rahman took home the 400 win in his heat.

Finally, James Weldon Johnson’s 4×1 team ran away with their relay as Leah Anderson, Audrey Ellis, Suzley Elbon, and Mounia Ahouanto took home the win for the Trojans.
The atheltes ran a magnificent race, as Anderson and Ellis started with a flawless hand-off, Ellis and Elbon ran down their opponents, while Ahouanto turned on the jets to fly to the finish for the win.
It was a great showing by all the participants in their opening meet, as they attempt to get even better and faster this week. There were several winners from each school, who did fantastic in their first meets of the season.
James Weldon Johnson’s girls track & field team would win the meet, while Highlands would win the meet for the boys.
