Jacksonville Fl- The backyard of Riverside High School came alive with the anticipation of an epic battle against Mandarin High School. On one side stood the Riverside Generals, determined to secure a win on their home turf, while on the other side, the Mandarin Mustangs, with two victories under their belt, were hungry for their third win of the season.
The two teams lined up, ready to write another chapter in their storied rivalry. It was Riverside that drew first blood. Myles Kendrick caught a perfectly thrown touchdown pass, giving the Generals an early lead.
But the Mustangs weren’t to be outdone. Tiant Wyche, the elusive #20, had other plans. With determination in his eyes, he dashed through Riverside’s defense, scoring a rushing touchdown, and Mike Howell slithered his way in for a two-point conversion. The first quarter ended with Mandarin ahead, 8-6.
As the second quarter began, the Mustangs’ dynamic duo came to life. Quarterback Tramell Jones connected with Jaime Ffrench Jr. for a spectacular touchdown pass. The scoreboard lit up with Mandarin leading 14-6.
But the play of the day belonged to the Mustangs’ defense. Generals’ QB Glenn Foreman dropped back searching for an opening, but Ethan McClain, a towering defender, swooped in to snatch the football, ending the drive with a fumble recovery.
Just before halftime, Trammel Jones displayed his quarterbacking prowess once more. With precision and finesse, he launched a beautiful pass to Tiant Wyche. The Mustangs headed into the locker room with a commanding 29-12 lead.
The third quarter ignited with another dazzling play by Jones, this time connecting with Ffrench Jr. for his second TD of the night on a 50-yard pass. Ffrench showcased his agility, evading tacklers and sprinting towards the end zone. Mike Howell plowed through for another two-point conversion, extending the Mustangs’ lead to 37-12.
The Generals, though facing an uphill battle, summoned their fighting spirit, notching another touchdown to make it 37-20. But the Mustangs, now in their groove, were unstoppable. Ffrench Jr. continued to shine, hauling in a magnificent 46-yard pass, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
As the final seconds ticked away, the Mandarin Mustangs emerged victorious, sealing a resounding 50-20 triumph. They displayed strength, skill, and a deep camaraderie that only a team in sync could possess. The Mustangs left the backyard with their heads held high, their record now a perfect 3-0. Yet their journey through the season is only just beginning.
