Northeast FL- Raines defeated Jackson 42-2 in the first round of the 2M Region 1 playoffs. The Vikings (10-1) intercepted five passes in the contest. Vikings safety Jayden Taylor returned two interceptions for touchdowns. It was a mixture of defense, special teams, and offense on the night, as the Vikings ran it back against Jackson for the second time in two weeks, and completely dominated.
Quarterback Ty’Ren Randolph scored on a zone read on third and goal to put Raines up 7- 0 with 8:48; to play in the first quarter. Raines went for the onside kick to start and recovered. Six plays later, they had seven points. Next scoring drive for Raines came when Randolph tossed a beautiful touchdown to Davian Lucas for a 46-yard reception. Raines led 13- 0 midway through the first quarter.
With Raines bon offense, Jackson needed a stop and they got it. The Tigers secured a tackle for loss in the end zone on defense resulting in a safety. The play came with points as Jackson cut Raines lead to 11-points, 13-2. Both teams would retire to halftime with this score in the Graveyard.
Jackson (3-8) was unable to do anything on offense before the half, an that spilled over to the second half. They found themselves back on defense, and it seemed like they might hold Raines on a crucial fourth down. Yet Randolph ran for 29-yards on fourth down for a first down. This set up an 18-yard touchdown by running back Mark Miller. Randolph would score on the keeper for the 2-point conversation to put Raines up 21-2, to end the third.
In the fourth Raines would pull away. First on a six-play 70-yd touchdown drive. The defense would cap the night when Jayden Taylor secured two interceptions for pick sixes to put the game away. Raines will now switch their sites toward Bolles (6-5) whom they fell to last year in the playoffs. This time the game will be at Raines, a place the Vikings are undefeated this season.
