Jaguars select Dante Fowler Jr in 2015 NFL Draft

With the 3rd overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Dante Fowler Jr OLB from the University of Florida. Fowler was rated the #1 rated pass rusher by many draft analysis including NFL network’s Mike Mayock. At 6 foot 3 and 260 pounds, Fowler is a big and strong specimen. He ran a 4.6, 40 yard dash at the combine, which translated on the field into a “freakish first step” (Mayock) off the ball. Fowler was quoted in saying a month ago that he would be “shocked if the Jaguars didn’t pick him”. Obviously he knew something then. The Jaguars, who picked # 3 in the first round took only two minutes after Marcus Mariotta was announced to turn in their pick. Signifying that they knew who their man was all along.

Fowler is slated to play OLB in the Jaguars defense. He will play the LEO position. He will be apart of a defense that generated 45 sacks tied for 6th in the league. He will join young players like Sen’ Derrick Marks, Telvin Smith, and Tyson Alualu to lead a youth movement for Gus Bradley’s defense.

“First-team All-SEC and Walter Camp second-team selection in 2014. Led the Gators with 15 tackles for loss and 17 quarterback hurries and had 8.5 sacks. Played in 37 career games, with 25 starts. Had five forced fumbles in his career and 34 tackles for loss. Was a five-star recruit from Lakewood High School in Florida and competed in the 2012 Under Armour All-America game.”
