Fletcher Flag Football Goes Further Than Ever Before In 2024

The Gateway Conference runners-up went deep into the playoffs this year, making it all the way to the FHSAA Class 2A Regional Finals. After defeating several opponents including Paxon, Mandarin, and Sandalwood in the regular season, Fletcher would win a district championship and advance to the playoffs. Yet they wouldn’t just be satisfied with making it to the tournament, they were determined to win it advancing further than any other previous Fletcher flag football team before.

Balling out for the Senators this year were Katie Rodney who catches bombs from Jasmine Cross. Cross is athletic and elusive for the Senators and Wills them to victories on the field. She passed for 2,549 yards and whopping 43 touchdowns. She also rushed for 883 yards and 8 touchdowns. Rodney finished with 1,030 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns. Rodney also led the team with 17 sacks.

Fletcher’s defense was one of a kind this year as Ashley Mohrmanngears led the team in tackles (72) and interceptions (5). Kaiylssa Sepulveda was right there with her grabbing 5 interceptions on the season, as the Senators shut down some top offenses this year. Against Chiles in round 1 of the playoffs, the Senators won 20-6 registering 4 interceptions. After downing Chiles, the Senators would advance to face Fleming Island.

Against Fleming Island, Fletcher once again took the ball away 3 times with interceptions. Cross would surgically dismantle the #1 team in the area with 3 touchdown passes as Fletcher defeated the Golden Eagles 33-12. Fletcher pulled the ultimate upset of the season, defeating #1 ranked Fleming Island in the second round of the playoffs. Said Ed White’s head coach Bachir Saoud after hearing of the upset win, “I told a lot of people that I thought Fletcher was arguably the best team in the area, we played them twice and it was close”.

No strangers to tough opponents, Fletcher would advance to face Pace in the Regional Finals. Unfortunately in that contest quarterback Amaya Pablo was unstoppable, passing for 266 yards and 5 touchdowns. Fletcher would fall 31-13.

It was a great season by head coach Bradley Ashmore and the Senators as they overcame a slow start to go further than all but one team in the playoffs this year in Northeast Florida. Jasmine Cross returns, along with Kaiylssa Sepulveda as Fletcher will be one of the top teams to look out for next year. They finished the season 12-4.
