Duval Sport continues to celebrate ten years of covering youth, middle school and high school sports in Northeast Florida. As we highlight some of the top achievements over the years, this time we are looking back over the last school year. We’re celebrating all the champions county and state champions that we covered this year.
- Ponte Vedra Soccer wins 4th State Title
Ponte Vedra defeated St. Thomas Aquanis, 5-1 in the Class 6A state semifinal. Then went on to defeat the East Lake Eagles, 3-1 to be crowned FHSAA Class 6A State Champions. Ponte Vedra coach Dave Silverberg guided his team to victory helping Ponte Vedra win its fourth state title. They also won the title in 2021-2022. Silverberg has won eight state soccer championships in total, a remarkable feat. He was rewarded by being named the 2023-2024 Florida Dairy Farmers high school girls soccer coach of the year.
The Sharks went 22-1-1 on the season, led by sophomores Natalie Brooks and Lily Morse who both scored 21 goals on the season. Jenny Dearie also had a stellar year with 19 goals and tied with Brooks for lead in assists with 15. The Sharks are favorites to repeat as their young stars are returning for two more years.

2. St. Johns Country Day Wins First Ever State championship in baseball<— Click to read full story
 A dropped ball on the third strike allowed base runner Connor O’Steen to score from third to give the Spartans the amazing 4-3 win and the Class 2A FHSAA State Championship. The first baseball championship ever in Clay County.

Springfield Middle School wins it’s first ever Duval County Middle School Championship. Springfield defeated Lake Shore Middle 24-6 on Tuesday night, to conclude the 2023 middle school football season not only in Duval County, but in all Northeast Florida. Fittingly, it was Springfield that ended it, the most talented team the area has seen this year.

In a highly anticipated showdown between two undefeated powerhouses, the James Weldon Johnson Trojans squared off against the Springfield Comets in the championship clash of the 2023-2024 Duval County Middle School Girls’ Basketball Championship. Despite Springfield’s resilience, the James Weldon Johnson Trojans proved to be too formidable, clinching a decisive 39-27 victory to capture the title of the 2023-2024 Duval County Middle School Champions.
5. Springfield Comets Secure Duval County Middle School City Championship in Overtime Thriller<— Click to read full story
In a heart-pounding showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Landmark Seahawks clashed with the Springfield Comets in a battle for supremacy in the Duval County Middle School City Championship. That makes four championships inn six years for Head Coach Antwan Lewey of Springfield Middle.
6. Baker County Wins 4th Consecutive Middle School Championship Over Oakleaf<— Click to read full story
The Bobcats of Baker County won their 4th consecutive middle school championship Tuesday, defeating the Oakleaf Junior High Yellow Jackets 16-12. With the historic win, Baker County middle has connected it’s current 8th grade class with Baker County High School’s 2025 class.

Middleburg defeated Barron Collier in 3 straight sets 25-23, 25-17, and 25-23 to win the FHSAA Class 5A championship. Brooke Forkum hit the deciding kill for the Broncos, who secured their first state championship in school history.
8. Swiss Point Back On Top After 7 Years, Stunning Gamble Rogers To Win St Johns Middle School Title<— Click to read full story
The Swiss Point Raiders reached the pinnacle of the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA), after upsetting Gamble Rogers 8-0 Wednesday night to once again be crowned champions. Swiss Point prevented a repeat by Gamble Rogers, and in the process won their first championship since 2017.
9. Landon Lions win Duval County Soccer Championship
Tied 1-1, the game would go down to penalty kicks. It took five tries, but eventually the Lions of Landon would roar to victory 3-2 over Fletcher to win the 2023-2024 Duval County Girls Soccer Championship.
10. Patriot Oaks Wins Second SJMSAA D2 Championship Defeating Valley Ridge<— Click to read full story
Two teams that vied for the coveted St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association Division 2 championship in recent years, met for the first time in the title game. Patriot Oaks would capitalize on several mistakes by Valley Ridge, scoring 28 unanswered points in the championship to take home the victory 36-8.
11. Murray Middle Wins Boys Basketball Championship
Murray defeated Landrum 77-55 to capture the St. Johns County Middle School Championship. Brysen Roberts and Jayden Roberts were the top two scorers on the team. Jayden was the leading scorer for the majority of the season. The bulldogs were undefeated.
12. Kernan Middle School 2023-2024 Duval County Middle School Softball Champions
Kernan defeated Landon in the county championship game. Congratulations to the champs of Duval County.
13.Landon Middle School 2023-2024 Boys Baseball Duval County Middle School Champions
Landon defeated Baldwin middle 10-9 to win the county championship. Congratulations to the Lions

Landon defeated Baldwin in two straight sets to win “Back to Back” championships. The Lions faced Baldwin in back to back years, winning two hard fought contest.
