The 2024 edition of the Trinity Christian Conquerors will look vastly different than years past. In the past, Trinity has boasted 5-Stars, 4- Stars, Gatorade Players of the Year, and more. Some of the top players in the nation have come from Hammond Blvd. However, this year instead of 5-stars, Trinity will boast players who don’t have 5 starts under their belt. It’s a glaring contrast for one of the most consistent championship programs in the state of Florida.
With only eight seniors returning this season, many of the starters this year are underclassmen. Trinity hasn’t fielded a roster this inexperienced in the last twenty years. There also has been a lack of transfers, something that Trinity isn’t accustomed to. With inexperience comes the hope that the players will be determined to write their own history, and not ride the reputation of the players that came before them.
This effort rests on players like freshman quarterback Terel Dallas, who is expected to lead the offense. However, sophomores Zarah Hicks, and Josiah Bryant have also seen time at quarterback. Each player has unquestioned talent, however high school playing experience is lacking for all.
Trinity’s coaching staff will look for mismatches against opponents, and may match each player up based on specific match-ups and game situations. This means potentially rotating quarterbacks, and using playmakers at different positions. Some of those playmakers are sophomores wide receiver Marquez Hicks and outside line backer Terrell Pinkney (6’4, 180lbs).
There’s sophomore wide receiver Chris Grissett (6’0, 163lbs), and freshman wide receiver/defensive back Tre Williams who both posses speed and explosive agility. Linebacker Jacob Weldon (sophomore), showed in the kickoff classic that he will take the position as tackling machine for Trinity. David Wright earned the the coveted number 3 at Trinity, and will have big shoes to fill as a leader at wide receiver and defensive back.
Trinity does have some seasoned talent and experience. Lineman Adrian Williams (6’3, 295lbs) has an offer from Jax State. Tight End Lenox Hires, a 6 foot 2, 220-pound senior had 184 yards receiving, and 2 TDs. Talent like senior lineman Nehemiah Williams (6’3, 315lbs), and Corbett Yarbrough, a 6 foot 5, 260-pound junior offensive lineman, both who can move the pile and get to the next level.
They’ll pave the way for senior running back Kaleel Vareen. There’s an addition in Areyion Guyton who came over from LaGrange High School in Georgia who will share the load in the backfield. As long as there is championship experience on the team, Trinity should never be under estimated.
“There’s some good young talent on the team” said head coach Verlon Dorminey. That young talent will have to rise to the occasion if they are to continue the winning tradition that players of the past forged at Trinity. They have Ed White, Bolles and Raines to start off the season, and we’ll see how this young talent handles the bright lights..
