10 Football Storylines of 2024: The Price Is Right For Ponte Vedra In Advance Of Their Showcase Showdown

The daytime game show ” The Price is Right” is one of America’s favorites. The reason for it’s popularity stems from the opportunity to win the game by showcasing the right skill to get closest to the prize. In the game show, you get closest to the prize by guessing the right price. Yet in the game of football, Ponte Vedra has the chance to win the ultimate prize because they already have the right Price.

First there’s head coach Steve Price, who won district coach of the year in 2023. He improved Ponte Vedra’s 5-5 record from 2022, to an 8-4 season in 2023. Ponte Vedra ended their season in the second round of the playoffs, a major accomplishment for the team. Price is the right coach to lead the Sharks even further this year.

Then there’s Quarterback Drew Price, a 5 foot 11, 170 pound senior has the skill to help lead Ponte Vedra to the prize. He replaces Ben Burk who led Ponte Vedra in several statistical categories. Price is a talented athlete that scored at receiver, and tossed a touchdown at quarterback last year. He now steps into the starting role at quarterback, looking to keep the Shark’s high powered offense rolling. He looked great in spring versus Riverside, establishing a rapport with his receivers.

Two of those receivers that already look like they have a good report are Jack Berquist (2026, WR/TE/ 6’3/ 200lb) who scored in the spring game showing an ability to use his big frame to create mismatches and capitalize. As well as Camden Tietze (2027, WR, 6’0,165lbs), a young but blossoming athlete who scored the first touchdown of the spring game.

Yet it won’t be passing that will win the case for Ponte Vedra this year. That role will be up to the rushing of running back Brian Case.  The 6 foot, 200 pound, running back was one of the top rushers in the city last year with 1,165yds and 21 touchdowns. Case has an offer from FAU.

Ponte Vedra lost one of it’s pivitol leaders in Tight End/ Linebacker Landon Okla who moved out of state. Yet, they return several key starters to help them get to the prize. Robbie Grieco (6’2/ DE) had 8 sacks,2 caused fumbles, 48 tackles in 2023, looking to captain the defense for the Sharks. He gets help from defensive tackle Martin Geary (6’3 280lbs) who last year anchored the Bolles defensive line as one of their sack leaders. Geary is committed to Colgate

The offensive line is where the Sharks will bite. Losing Michigan signee Jake Guarnera will be extremely tough. But players like Rocco Garcia (2025, 6’3, 280, OL), a powerful people mover who opened the holes for a 1,000 yard back last year. As well as Brody Mcleod (2026 l 6’4 275lbsl OL), a huge presence on the Ponte Vedra offensive line that helped protect one of the top passers in NE Florida. Already has a D-1 offer from Memphis.

All these pieces together prove that the opportunity for Ponte Vedra might be right now. With a critical contest against Nease in their first game, a win by this team would put them in an early lead position to potential take the district.
