St. Augustine Keeps Rising, To Face Choctaw After Downing Ed White

St. Augustine (10-1) eliminated Ed White (8-4) in a Region 1-4A semifinal on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024. St. Augustine’s win was the Yellow Jackets’ fifth straight in the series. The game featured Ed White’s Joshua Patterson, a 2025 3-star defensive back (Iowa State commit) who would match up with 2026 4-star wide receiver Somourian Wingo. The two would battle all game, both getting the best of one another.

St. Augustine 7- Ed White 0, 11:46 1Q. Trenton Jones had reservations for six. He took the opening kickoff 85 yards to the end zone.

Jones fast start was reminiscent of his state championship performance last year versus Mainland (Daytona). On the opening kickoff of that game, Trenton Jones took the run back 96-yards for the game’s first touchdown. The wide receiver set the tone early for the Jackets as they dominated the first half of the championship game. He did so again in this contest versus Ed White.

St. Augustine 14- Ed White 0, 2:03 1Q Trenton Jones ran across the formation in motion, caught a pass on the flat and jogged into the end zone for his second tuddy of the night. This time it was an 11-yard touchdown.

Jones showed why he wears the No. 1 jersey. Jones scored three touchdowns to help St. Augustine secure another 10-win season.

Ed White went for it on fourth down at their own 43. The Commanders picked up a first down.

St. Augustine has held Ed White to 0-4 on third down tonight. Yellow Jackets football at the Ed White 44.

Ed White might have caught a break. St. Augustine stumbled on fourth and 2 to give the Commanders the ball at their own 15.

St. Augustine’s Trendell Anderson got loose for a 31-yard touchdown run to open the floodgates. St. Augustine 35- Ed White 0, 5:10 3Q.

St. Augustine 35- Ed White 6, 2:41 3Q. Rontrez Lloyd burst through the St. Augustine defense for a 25-yard touchdown run. The score was set up by a fabulous 28-yard catch by Nick Roberson.

St. Augustine 38- Ed White 6, 8:54 4Q Skyler Kokoszka’s 22-yard field goal has kept the clock running.

St. Augustine and Ed White have played a total of 6 times including this playoff matchup. St. Augustine is 4-0 in the regular season, but 1-1 in the playoffs. Ed White won a 2014 playoff contest 26-14. The preceding contests included

St. Augustine (#1) will face #2 Choctawhatchee next Friday 11/29 at 7:30 pm, another home game in November at Foots Brumley. The winner advances to the FHSAA State Semifinal where state powers #1 Jones (Orlando) or #2 Vanguard (Ocala) will be waiting.
