Trinity dominates first half; Bartram rallies for victory

It was a very impressive performance by the defending 3A State Champs on Saturday afternoon in Callahan Florida. The Trinity Christian Conquerors starting unit completely dominated the first half of play.

De’Quante Showers struck first for Trinity on a touchdown run. Then it was time for Cobb connection as QB Billy Cobb threw a very nice passes to WR Damien McGhee, and then D.J Mathews to increase the lead to 21-0 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same as Trinity scored again ballooning its lead to 29-0. Coach Verlon Dorminy then decided to rest the starters for the evening. Equally impressive as the Conqueror’s offense was their superb defense, that stopped any attempts by the Bears to get anything going in the first half. Bartram’s QB Joey Gatewood couldn’t quite establish the timing with receivers on the night, thanks to the swarming efforts of Trinity’s defense. It was a good test for Bartram’s team in the first half, and they responded in the fourth quarter; outscoring Trinity 24-0 to gain the victory 31-29. The preseason game was both a showcase of power by Trinity and pride by the Bartram. Both teams should be able to build from this game going into the regular season.
